
BMW is already in the forefront with respect to the use of lightweight materials like plastics n composites, magnesium, carbon-fiber in their production models. BMW is also bringing in advancements in various hybrid/EV technologies and clean diesel.
Inspired by the BMW M1 Hommage concept, the new sustainable sports car concept will feature all the latest BMW Efficient Dynamics these include features such as auto stop/start, regenerative brakes, electric power steering. The concept is build using sustainable parts too . BMW will showcase the limited release concept car by 2012. This concept is a study in the feature-laden two seater sports car which contains the BMW’s latest technologies. Lightweight materials such as Magnesium, Carbon fibre etc are included in the concept. Stop-start systems, regenerative braking, direction injection are also made available in this version.
The design will address green powertrain issues, and the sustainability of design and materials used in construction. According to sources Dr. Klaus Draeger quoted “Sustainability is becoming increasingly important. As a responsible premium manufacturer, we want to address this issue even more extensively than before”. “They (the new vehicles) will be developed and built in line with the principle of sustainability across all development stages. Technological innovations will be accelerated even more, in order to constantly make our vehicles more efficient”.
BMW is studying the viability of the project, and the ultimate goal is to create a two seater sports car boasting all the modern features. The car is timed for release at the end of 2012. The concept shows great promise and direction but whether it will be made a production car is still not certain.
