Aston Martin One-77 ...Things to Know

The newest and hottest of one of the top luxury car manufacturers is the Aston Martin One-77. As its name clearly states, this car is scheduled to produce only 77 units, and starts at a fair price of $1 million EU. This car is the first Aston Martin in many years that is a truly new model, making it even more exclusive than it was before. The car has been a long time coming, and anyone who can get their hands on one will be considered very lucky by car enthusiasts around the world. Fortunately for Aston Martin, the kind that will be interested enough to purchase this vehicle are the ones who aren’t really worried or affected by the recession at all.

The Aston Martin One-77 comes with a V-12 6.0L engine that is similar to the Vanquish and Vantage, but re engineered to create more than 700 horsepower. This car was developed with racing in mind, and it’s proving to be a force to be reckoned with in the world of super cars before it is even on the market. With a 0-60 in less than 3.5 seconds, this car tops out well over 200 mph even though an owner would never have the road space or the desire to make it go that fast. Add to all this 20 inch wheels that scream luxury and superiority, and you’ve got a super car that is poised for success.

With all the trouble in the auto industry, many wonder if now is the right time for a super car like the Aston Martin One-77. However, since there are only 77 being made, they likely won’t last for long, and those who do snatch them up will pay a hefty price to do so. Aston Martin might lose a little bit of money on this one, but they just need to keep weathering the storm and see how they fare in the end.

The Aston Martin One-77 is the epitome of everything that Aston Martin stands for, and has been a long time coming. The technology is top-of-the-line, the craftsmanship is superior, as you would expect nothing less from this British auto maker, and the attention to detail is unmatched, as well. Effortless beauty, sporty superiority, and a design like no other give the Aston Martin One-77 something to talk about. Or perhaps that’s something to be talked about?

Audi- Affordable Luxury Cars

Audi has more than 270 dealers around the world to offer their affordable German-engineered luxury cars. The history of this great company is one of the best stories ever told about the automobile, and offers a glimpse of the creation of one of the best German car companies in 1932 from four independent manufacturers. Audi, DKW, Horch and Wanderer joined forces to become known for their dynamic four-ring emblem simply as Audi, a name that is recognized throughout the world and by generations of people who appreciate quality luxury cars.

It all started in 1899 with the establishment of the Horch company, who became a member of the Audi family in 1932. Since that time, Audi has been leading the way in innovation and racing performance for many decades. The first car by Horch was completed in 1901, and had many innovations that created a totally new type of car for those who wanted something different. The small piston that was added created the first impact-free engine, and it featured the first alloy crankcase, which was an achievement than no one realized would make such a difference in the automobile industry.

Audi was established in 1909, after Horch had a dispute with the board of the company that he started. He left the company, and created his own second company, but lost a legal battle over having the same name as his first company. As such, he used the Latin translation of his name, and called the company Audiwerks GmbH, which was put into use in 1910. In 1913, meanwhile the first Wanderer was produced, and became very popular and known as the Puppchen thanks to its debut in the Operetta of the same name.

After 1932, all four brands came together under the Audi name to offer the same thing: innovation, imagination, and a car that would take the world by storm. The company has gone through many changes in its 100+ years of history, and still commits to the same levels of excellence today that were demanded back when the company was started. Throughout the latter half of the 20th century, these cars became more popular than ever, and have brought Audi to the level of performance that it is known for today. Through everything else, Audi has always stayed true to its roots, which is why it is known simply today for its ‘Truth in Engineering’.

Rolls Royce- A Classy Classic

By age 19, Fredrick Henry Royce had already created his own manufacturing company with the help of a friend, and went on to become successful in many different ways. It was in 1903 that Royce had enough money to buy his first car, which was a secondhand French Decauville. However, he was very dissatisfied with the quality and performance of the vehicle, which led him to create his own car prototype, using the car he purchased as a starting point. His interest in engineering started around age 14, but Royce had plenty of ideas and standards that needed to be met, despite his young age.

Three cars were built in total in the first attempt, giving one to each of his friends to drive. Everyone was thoroughly impressed with the quality of the cars that they were driving, and word of mouth eventually got around. Charles Rolls found out about this car, and arranged to meet Royce to see about a business deal. They met at a hotel in Manchester, and struck a deal to create great cars. The deal? Rolls would gain rights to sell all the cars that Royce could produce. As such, the Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Company was born in 1904. Within 3 years of that deal, the Silver Ghost was created, which was an engineering feat like no other.

This popular car created a new need for the industry. Everyone wanted a Rolls-Royce, or at least everyone who could afford one. Therefore, a new factory was built for manufacturing these great cars, but Charles Rolls died soon after this factory was built. Royce worked through semi-retirement from home in West Sussex, offering aero engine design in addition to car production. After World War I, the infamous Phantom I and II were introduced, which made a big splash in the automobile industry. The company came to the US in 1921, and the company was successful beyond Royce’s wildest dreams.

In 1998, Volkswagen purchased Bentley and Rolls-Royce from Vickers PLC, but then sold Rolls-Royce to BMW Group, which built a new factory and designed one of the most infamous cars in automobile history- the Phantom, launched in 2003. Today, the company is still going strong, and the Phantom is one of the most popular models available. However, for those who can afford it, there are a great variety of other models to choose from, as well.

Jaguar- Quality luxury car

Jaguar started as a name in 1935, and then evolved into a car company in 1945, known as Jaguar Cars Ltd. the company was founded in 1922 by William Walmsley and William Lyons, and was originally known as the Swallow Sidecar Company. They started out making commercial sidecars for motorcycles, and then began into the world of luxury sports cars. The company became very well known for its luxury sports cars in the 1950s, and purchased the Daimler Motor Company, which they used as the name for their most high-end models and their most luxurious cars.

Finally, in 1989, Ford Motor Company purchased Jaguar, which brought them to a whole new playing field. Although they had always been well-known for luxury and style, they were now backed by one of the biggest car manufacturers in the world. They soon became the number one name in luxury cars and sports cars around the world. Jaguar has a very rich history, and has created a legacy like no other. They pride themselves on high quality vehicles and unmatched craftsmanship.

Even through all of the changes, Jaguar maintained its integrity, reliability, and its reputation for creating quality luxury cars. Jaguar became a name that was associated with the best of the best around the world, and it is still one of the most coveted brands among car enthusiasts and collectors around the world. In more recent times, more changes have been made, but nothing has changed the quality or the reputation of the Jaguar name. They continue to make great cars, and have once again been sold to a different company.

Since the Jaguar name has its own reputation, it doesn’t need to be owned by a large company. In 2007, Ford Motor Company announced that it would sell Jaguar and Land Rover to the highest bidder. In 2008, the two brands were handed over to Tata Motors, which now controls manufacturing and production of these great cars. Many car companies get lost in the sales, the acquisitions, and the mergers that go on, but Jaguar has never fallen victim to its name being tossed around the motor industry. The brand has been, and always will be, synonymous with high quality luxury sports cars for everyone who knows the name.

Lexus- Luxury Redefined

Lexus, a surprise competitor in the luxury car world, is owned and manufactured by Toyota Motor Sales. Many people praise Toyota, as they have for years, for their affordable, reliable cars that offer simplicity and quality craftsmanship. However, in the early 1980s, the CEO saw a chance for Toyota to compete in the ever-growing luxury car market, and started conceptualizing ideas for what everyone knows today as the Lexus. The first Lexus was born in 1989, and the quality and commitment to excellence from Toyota has remained the same since that very day.

After many years of studying, research, and prototypes, the first two Lexus models became available for purchase in September of 1989. Simply named the LS 400 and the ES 250, these cars were a hit at the auto show and a hit at the dealership as well. The LS 400 even made it on the Car and Driver 10Best list for January of 1990, which definitely said something about the quality that went into these fine cars. Then, the SC 400, the SC 300, and the ES 300 were released in 1991. The first two were new models altogether, while the ES 300 was created to replace the ES 250.

The second-generation LS-400 was born in 1994, which came with rave reviews and many more awards from Car and Driver and even a slew of awards from the esteemed J.D. Power and Associates. In 1996, that same 400 series is named as one of the 24 Most Important Automobiles of the Century, as reviewed by Automobile Magazine. What started as a little chance for competition had quickly become one of the world’s best luxury car makers, thanks largely to Toyota’s commitment to success in everything that they did.

In line with the growing trend of SUV popularity, Lexus released the RX 300, a crossover sport utility, in 1998. This truly brought Lexus, a luxury car company, to the everyday driver. Through the next ten years, many more models were redesigned, revamped, and re-released to compete with the ever-changing world of luxury cars. Finally, in 2008, the IS F was born. This car has a 416 hp, 5.0 L V-8 engine and an aggressive, sporty look without sacrificing the luxury of the brand. Today, Lexus is still going strong, and is well known for providing affordable luxury sedans and sports coupes to anyone who wants them.

Special vehicle for the Royal Family of Abu Dhabi Limited edition of one

We have witnessed the best bending to the influence of riches many a time, and a burning example is the latest edition of the Mercedes Benz G55 AMG. Commissioned by the Royal Family of Abu Dhabi, the German tuning firm, ART, has designed a one-off Mercedes Benz G55 AMG to escort the convoy of Prince Sheikh Sultan Bin Rashed Al Nahyan.

Called the “AS55K Yaas Edition,” the new version generates power from an enhanced 5.5-liter V8 engine capable of delivering 620hp, up from 354hp. Featuring an improved brake system with 8-piston calipers up front and 4-piston brake calipers at the rear, the AS55K Yaas Edition includes 22-inch polished alloys enclosed by high-performance wheels and 12 projector lamps, together with four xenon upper-beam headlights and eight fog lamps, to illuminate the desert roads at night.

Moreover, the luxury vehicle flaunts a bodykit with many carbon-fiber components, polished stainless steel bars and chrome-plated tailpipes, while the interior is decorated with cinnamon-colored leather, Alcantara and carbon fiber components. The manufacturer hasn’t revealed the cost yet, but you may well presume a princely price tag for the one-off vehicle.

Audi - Q7 Monster Luxury

Reno Audi

Audi's Q7, a monster with the face, feel of a luxury car...

Engine: 4.2-liter, V-8, 350 horsepower
Price: $49,900 (base); $62,000 (as tested)
Mileage: 16 mpg city / 20 highway (est.)

Do you hear it? That long, seismic moan underfoot, the thick, serial popping of tectonic fractures as if the Earth's rivets were giving way? It can only mean the arrival of the Audi Q7, the latest full-size luxury SUV to give the planet a hernia.

Pieced together with proven components from Audi's considerable larder, the Q7 has the full measure of Audi refinement and techno-sexual ardor.

No hint of truckiness resides beneath the luxury-sedan gloss. The cabin is beautifully turned out in a variety of wood laminates, leather and aluminum trim. The interior is pianissimo quiet.

The Q7's biggest drawback? Weight — big, raw, don't-sit-near-me tonnage. This is an unavoidable consequence in these sorts of kitchen-sink vehicles that must offer credible off-road capacity as well as luxury on-road performance.

Under the hood of the Q7 is Audi's 4.2-liter, 350-horsepower direct-injection V8 engine (a V6 and a turbocharged V6 diesel will come later) buttoned to a reinforced version of its six-speed Tiptronic transmission.

This powertrain has the requisite oomph to accelerate to 60 mph in seven seconds, and the Q7 cruises effortlessly at 75 mph. But beyond that, you can begin to feel the effects of its weight and aerodynamic resistance in passing performance.

Mc Laren and the Mercedes Launch Sir Stirling Moss McLaren SLR

mossrearpro Mc Laren and the Mercedes Launch Sir Stirling Moss McLaren SLR

Mc Laren and the Mercedes together have created one of the most luxurious cars ever with their current SLR model. However, they have beaten their own record by creating the Sir Stirling Moss McLaren SLR. The car shakes all the preconceived notions about luxury and takes it way ahead of existing norms. The car will have a limited number of pieces manufactured and only 75 will ever reach the market. At about 750,000 Euros, the car is meant for the filthy rich who do not care about anything but opulence. The Sir Stirling Moss McLaren SLR looks grander than anything that I have ever seen and it definitely looks very luxurious. It comes with the latest technology and the best quality interiors.

Exclusive SLR Stirling Moss From Mercedes-Benz Worth It At €750,000

slr-stirling-moss-450 Exclusive SLR Stirling Moss From Mercedes-Benz Worth It At €750,000

There aren’t that many things that can turn grown men into an excited bunch of giggling, drooling boys, but a stupendously designed car can still make them whistle louder than a boiling pot of tea.

Mercedes-Benz, in collaboration with Formula One, has been producing the SLR supercar for a few years now, but with the end of its production due in some time, Mercedes-Benz is going for the big finish. They are celebrating the end of this regime with a special edition SLR Stirling Moss. Named after the Brit driver who won the Mille Miglia in 1955, the SLR Stirling Moss will also be styled after the original 300 SLR that Moss was driving in the race. The Stirling Moss is set to impress with 650hp and powered by its V8 engine it can hit 0-100km in 3.5 seconds flat. With a top speed of 350kmph, the car may be built to disappear in the blink of an eye but you would still cruise by slowly in this baby to show off its sleek and polished curves.

A Merc With The Midas Touch, Simply Gorgeous!

mercedes-c63-gold A Merc With The Midas Touch, Simply Gorgeous!

All that glitters ‘is’ gold if the stunning gold finger Merc is anything to go by! Model C63 AMG from the car mogul caught everyone’s fancy at the Bling on Wheels Show at the Emirates Mall in Dubai. So far, we have no idea about who the owner of this grand vehicle is but we are intrigued and impressed by someone for whom money does not matter as long as the car looks like a million bucks (or should we say a hundred million bucks)!

However, some car cynics are worried that the gold mirror finish of this Merc is a real paint job or simply a wrap sorta thing. But we think that parking your gold-wrapped C63 next to a genuine chrome SLR will be a very strange thing to do.

$3.4 Million Mercedes SLR McLaren Red Gold Dream: Pimped Up And How!

Mercedes SLR McLaren

Sports cars have something wicked going for them because not a single person can pull their gaze away from it. Car aficionados, however, always believe there is room for improvement and thus takes the rebirth of a Mercedes SLR McLaren.

The Mercedes has been pimped up and blinged up making its new avatar awe inspiring and hard to cease gawking at. A front splitter and bigger spoiler with a revised diffuser at the rear increases the downforce by 300kg and sets the automobiles speed up to 217mph. Not to mention the increase in power from the 999hp engine. However, what really gives the car its luxury title and transcends it a Mercedes SLR McLaren Red Gold Dream is the 14k gold splashed extravagantly over it and the added richness of 500 rubies. Certain areas have been given a 24k gold coating to battle the effect of stress.

Bugatti Royale

The new name for Bugatti's next model, a luxury four-seater supercar, has been revealed. AutoExpress is reporting that the car will be introduced as the Bugatti Bordeaux when it is introduced at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

Previously, the Bordeaux had been reported as the Bugatti Royale. It was widely believed that employees working on the vehicle had been referring to it internally as Project Lydia. Yesterday, we showed you the first teaser pic of the car, distributed as a party invitation. The grainy photo gives us little, but shows the interesting use of LED lights at the back.

Our artist's renderings suggest a shooting brake model, but we never predicted the vertical third light which defines the split rear window. The car is expected to get the same quad-turbo, 8.0-liter W16 engine found on the Veyron. The engine produces 1001 horsepower, and up to 1250 Nm of torque, suggesting the Bordeaux will be the fastest four-seater ever produced.

Note: Previously published artist illustrations attached for your enjoyment - not literal interpretation.

HONDA RACER

Honda is announcing the arrival of the Honda Racer™, a much-anticipated 1/64th scale Hot Wheels® car designed by Honda R&D Americas, Inc., in Torrance. The Honda model, along with designs from five additional automakers, were selected as part of the Hot WheelsDesigner's Challenge™ as a way to celebrate the die-cast brand's 40th anniversary. The Honda Racer arrives on store shelves in May 2008.

"The Honda Racer combines the excitement of Honda's racing heritage with Hot Wheels' reputation for speed, power, performance and attitude," says Guillermo Gonzalez, senior designer of Honda R&D Americas, Inc., and designer of the Honda Racer. "The core concept is built around our idea for an 'ultimate racecar' and leverages the design freedom made possible by a scale model car."

The key element to the design of the entire car is that the body is in the shape of the Honda "H" emblem. The exterior shape resembles an imaginative side-by-side racecar of 1960s vintage that encloses a driver and a navigator. The general shape, styling and paint scheme is further inspired by Honda's early participation in Formula 1 racing and its 1967 RA 273™ racecar. The white and red paint scheme, the open cockpits, large exhaust system and open wheels are all elements inspired by the historic Honda racecar.

A powerful Honda V-10 VTEC® engine sits between the piloting team. If brought up to scale, the engine would displace an amazing 2.0 liters per cylinder. A set of velocity stacks and an intake that receives air through the body of the car sits between red DOHC valve covers to provide a technologically-advanced look. The exhaust system is a giant set of twisted, yet balanced tubes that reside high above the engine, complementing the power plant design at the back end of the car. The dynamic expression of technology, history and detail is evident throughout the design of the car.

"Sure, it is awesome to play with the cars on the orange track again, but I discovered that designing a Hot Wheels car is very different and in some ways more liberating than designing a production car," says Gonzalez, a native of East Los Angeles who considers automotive design to be his dream job. "For example, the primary design constraint is that the car had to fit on the orange track and perform a loop. Aside from that, the possibilities are without limit."

Mattel invited auto manufacturers to participate in the Hot Wheels Designer's Challenge as part of the die-cast brand's 40th anniversary celebration. The design of the Honda Racer debuted at the 2007 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show in Las Vegas in October as a 1/5th scale model.
Starting in mid-August, the Honda Racer 1/5th scale model and other cars from the Designer's Challenge will be part of the Hot Wheels 40th anniversary road trip traveling along historic U.S. Route 40, stopping at multiple cities along the way. The tour starts at the Mattel headquarters in El Segundo, California, in August and ends at Watkins Glen, New York, in early September. See www.hotwheels.com/40th for more information.

Honda Accord coupe concept

Coming off its 11th consecutive year of record sales, and an aggressive program of hydrogen fuel cell development, Honda unveiled its latest take on the Honda Accord.

This model has long been the basis for Honda's success in the U.S., and the Accord Coupe concept car (like most Honda concept cars) is an accurate portrayal of what the next version will look like.

The exterior shape uses upswept lines and an aggressively-sloped roofline to give the concept a sportier appearance than the current model. While Toyota is ending production of its Solara coupe Honda is confirming a commitment to the two-door market.

The production version gets to dealers next fall. Expect increases in both horsepower and fuel economy.

New Car: HONDA ACCORD 2008

This is the all-new Accord. It may not look very different, but according to Honda this will be the car to catapult the Japanese brand into contention with established premium marques.

A ground-up re-design, the Accord will again be sold in saloon and Tourer forms, which are both expected to arrive in the showrooms this July. The current Accord sold 8500 units in the UK last year. Honda UK expects the new model to jump to between 12- and 14,000 sales, with prices kicking off at £18,000 and rising to over £23,000 for a diesel Tourer – roughly £1000 over prices for the current model. The new car is ‘significantly’ wider and slightly lower than the outgoing model. Under the sharper skin is a new, more rigid platform with new front and rear multi-link suspension.

Honda says it benchmarked the BMW 3-series to achieve a ‘more involving, communicative drive’.

More power; less emissions:

The Accord will be offered with two petrol engines and a new ultra-clean diesel. The 2.0-litre i-VTEC petrol is good for 154bhp and will improve economy thanks to revised valve and intake engineering. The 2.4-litre i-VTEC delivers 197bhp at 7000rpm and 187lb ft at 4500rpm.

However, the big news for European drivers is the Accord’s new 148bhp i-DTEC diesel, which has a massive torque output of 258lb ft at just 2000rpm. The previous Honda diesel unit was a benchmark for refinement, but Honda says it has made the new i-DTEC engine ‘more powerful, smoother and cleaner’. It’s so clean it will meet the US’s ultra-stringent ‘EPA Tier II Bin 5’emissions standards without the NoX-reducing urea injection system Mercedes fitted to its US-bound Bluetec diesel engines.

All three engines will be offered with a six-speed manual box. A five-speed auto is also offered on the petrol engines, with a diesel auto arriving in 2009.

A quality finish:

A great deal of effort has been expended on the fit and finish of the new ‘cockpit-like’ interior, which features floating, back-lit, instruments and a central LCD multi-information display.

Honda sources claim the interior feels a ‘class up’, going so far as to say it rivals the Audi A6 for space and quality. Even the front seats are described by Accord engineer Toshiro Morita as ‘no expense spared.’ Audi was the target when the Accord’s body and interior quality was being refined. BMW was the target for the engine development and the sophistication of engineering individual components, with Audi, BMW and Lexus used as reference points for the Accord’s electronics.

This includes Motion Adaptive EPS, which combines the stability system and electric power steering to detect instability and makes steering inputs designed to get the drive to steer in the correct direction. It also gets the option of Adaptive Cruise Control, a Collision Mitigation Braking System and Lane Departure Warning. You won't have to wait long to find out if the new Accord stands up to the hype; it will make its international debut at the Geneva show next

GENEVA Infiniti fx

Reports confirm that the next generation of the FX crossover will debut at the Geneva Motor Show but in somewhat, surprising news, the actual debut will take place in a private ceremony outside the show. Occurring during the evening of Tuesday March 4th, Nissan President and CEO Carlos Ghosn is expected to pull the curtain off the FX. Infiniti is a subsidiary of Nissan.

Coming up on the brand's 20th anniversary, this will be the first premiere for the brand outside of the U.S.

The FX will be joined by several Euro-specific performance cars being unveiled at the Swiss show. The vehicles will include the G-Series V6 sedan, G-Series coupe and the EX crossover which will rival the LR Freelander, BMW X3, Audi Q5, Mercedes GLK and the Volvo XC60. All three vehicles including the new FX, will be available across Europe beginning in October 2008, but Infiniti announced that it will enter the UK market in 2009, one of the brands most important markets.

Previous accounts of the Infiniti crossover call for the availability of a V6 or V8 petrol powered engine with a Renault develop V6 diesel option coming out in 2010.

The new FX is also believed to have an optional hybrid power train available, which will have a revolutionary electric motor system to assist petrol engines at low and high speeds. If this is true, this could potentially revolutionise a market segment consistently plagued with negative PR related to fuel efficiency. Nissan's new system would mean cleaner running vehicles in almost any driving situation.

Although a hybrid FX is not expected until 2011, news about it is expected to be released at the unveiling of the 2009 Infiniti FX.

MERCEDES CLK 2009

cold-weather testing in Northern Sweden.

Although it’s hard to see underneath the camouflage, the front light clusters are expected to be spilt into two and with the rear light clusters, they maybe located on the boot-lid.

Based of the new C-Class sedan, the next generation CLK will show signs of a similar design. Engines aren't expected to change much but the current 3.5-litre V6 will most likely remain as the base powerplant, with the 5.5-litre V8 continuing as an option. Diesel engines will also be available for the European market. Rear-wheel drive will continue as well, although there is speculation that 4Matic will be added as an option.

The CLK coupe is due late 2008 with the convertible expected to follow in 2009.

2 HYUNDAI Coupes Arrive in 2009

Hyundai will launch two new coupes by 2009. The first will be front wheel drive and will replace the current Coupé SIII. This is be based off the i30 and will look alot like the Veloster. Expect the same radical design, including the shooting brake-style rear end and squat, wide body, although the glass roof may be lost for safety reasons. Engine options will include the 1.6 and 2.0-litre engines also used in the i30, with a diesel model still being considered.

As part of Hyundai’s new brand restructuring, the next Coupé will remain in the same price range as the current model (which starts at £15,700) without compromising the level of quality which has been set by the new ‘i’ cars; it hasn’t yet been decided if that nomenclature will appear on the coupé.

Hyundai is confident that the new, more premium coupé’s price won’t rise because it will not come with a V6 engine option — as the current model does.

The second coupe is likely to be the Genesis Coupé. The plan is to introduce an entirely different, more performance-focused coupé based on the rear-wheel-drive, 350bhp V6 Genesis coupé concept that was unveiled at the 2007 Los Angeles show. This would be Hyundai’s answer to the Nissan 350Z, and would be available with the concept’s V6; the V8 from the Genesis saloon concept is also being considered.

The Genesis coupé has not yet been confirmed for the UK, but Tony Whitehorn, MD of Hyundai UK, maintains that Hyundai “must have a sports car as its halo model”.

MAZDA6 SPIED (U.S)

Meet your new Mazda6, provding you are in the U.S. This pre-production car was spied in the snowy state of Detroit.

The vulgar headlamps are part of the car right down to the Jaguar XF looking exhausts. A 3.5 litre V6 is likely to be used but the 3.7 litre V6 used in the CX-9 is unlikely.

Look for the official debut of the Mazda6 in the next few months with sales beginning sometime this year.

2008 Mercedes-Benz SLK 55 AMG Black Edition

Car Description

The new Black Series from Mercedes-Benz is an even more driver-focused variant of the V8-powered SLK 55 AMG Roadster, using motorsport-inspired technology to deliver scintillating performance and enhanced driving dynamics. Output from the 5.5-litre AMG engine is boosted from 360 hp to 400 hp and 45 kg has been shaved off the kerbweight through the use of lightweight components including a new fixed hard top. As a result, the 0 to 62 mph dash drops from 4.9 to 4.5 seconds, while 125 mph is, where permitted, clocked up in just 15.5 seconds – a full two seconds quicker. Top speed is no longer restricted to 155 mph, and the car can reach 173 mph.

The exclusive nature of the SLK 55 AMG Black Series is signalled by even more muscular front wings made from ultra-light carbon fibre-reinforced plastic (CRP) and a restyled AMG front skirt with carbon fibre inlays. Large air intakes and side air outlets ensure a sufficient flow of air to the enlarged engine oil cooler and new transmission and steering oil coolers.

Eliica (Electric Lithium-Ion Car)

Eliica, the fastest production car runs on Electricity

Keio University and Professor Hiroshi Shimizu and the team have now developed the next generation of the KAZ, which is named the Eliica (Electric Lithium-Ion Car). Last year the Eliica reached a top speed of 370 km/h at the Nardo test track in Italy, and the team’s goal is to beat the top speed of the world’s fastest production car (the Bugatti Veyron) and build a limited run of 200 production units, therefore becoming not just the fastest electric car in the world, but the fastest production car. Though it looks to be limousine length, the Eliica actually only seats the driver and three passengers – small consolation is that at an approximate US$320,000 a unit in prototype form, the car will still be in a limousine price range when manufactured in production quantities.
The Eliica was shown in two guises at the Tokyo Motor Show recently – one a roadgoing prototype and the other a record-breaking speedster.

Naturally enough, the Eliica roadgoing prototype aims to offer the ultimate environment and safety standards – power will be available by plugging into the mains electricity where it will take 10 hours to take on a full charge which should offer the 2,400kg Eliica a range of 200 kilomtres.

The final configuration of the Eliica is supposed to be either a four seater sedan that outperforms a sport car, or a sport car that offers the space and ride comfort of an SUV or "cross-over vehicle".

GINA – BMW Fabric Car

I would think that a lighter skin would make for a lighter car which would improve fuel consumption.

GINA stands for “Geometry and Functions in ‘N’ Adaptations”, which basically means that designers from both BMW and BMW Group DesignworksUSA were allowed to throw out the rulebook. This is most evident in the GINA Light Visionary Model’s outer skin, which is made entirely out of textile fabric that’s pulled taut around a frame of metal and carbon fiber wires. The skeleton of the car is controlled by electro-hydraulic devices and can actually move and change shape beneath the fabric skin. For instance, the headlights of the concept can be exposed or hidden by the car’s skin just like blinking eyes, and the hood opens from the center as the fabric parts to expose the engine. This idea extends to the interior, where BMW designers have made visible only those instruments that are required at a certain time, while the rest of the time the same fabric interior “blinks” them out of view.
